Zlatan Ibrahimovic has agreed a new one-year deal at AC Milan to extend his playing career into a 23rd season, Sky in Italy understands.

Ibrahimovic, who will be 41 in October, has missed most of Milan’s Scudetto-winning season due to injury and he became a free agent when his deal expired last week.

The Swede has suffered from a chronic issue with the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and underwent an operation to resolve it immediately after the end of the season.

“For the past six months I played without an ACL in my left knee,” Ibrahimovic wrote on Instagram in May. “Never suffered so much on and off the pitch.
The club views the veteran striker as a pivotal figure for his influence inside the changing room. His mentality and presence proved an inspiration for their Serie A title win – their first in 11 years.
He played 27 times across all competitions for AC Milan last season, scoring eight league goals.

AC Milan have signed former Liverpool striker Divock Origi on a four-year deal. They count on him to lead their line next season alongside ex-Arsenal and Chelsea target-man Olivier Giroud.
