Police arrest Portable over G-Wagon debt

Moment Police arrest Portable over G-Wagon debt

Popular street entertainer, Habeeb Okikiola, commonly known as Portable, was recently taken into custody by law enforcement officials for allegedly defaulting on payments for a G-Wagon he bought from a car dealership.

The apprehension occurred on Tuesday in the Abule Egba area of Lagos, according to Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesperson for the state police department, who revealed this during an interview with Channels Television.

According to Hundeyin, Portable’s apprehension occurred in the Abule Egba region of Lagos on Tuesday.

Allegedly, the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ artist procured the vehicle valued at ₦27 million but remitted only ₦13 million.

A video circulated widely depicting Portable evading apprehension by scaling a gate when approached by law enforcement officers bearing an arrest warrant.

Subsequently, another video surfaced portraying him being subdued, handcuffed, and escorted by approximately four officers into a waiting vehicle.

Amidst the commotion, the voice of a woman, purportedly the car dealer, could be heard in the background, expressing frustration and recounting Portable’s threats when confronted about settling his debt.

Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, indicated that the singer’s legal representatives are anticipated to appear on Wednesday morning. He further stated that the possibility of legal proceedings, contingent upon discussions with the singer’s legal team, remains.

This incident isn’t Portable’s inaugural encounter with law enforcement. In April 2023, the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ artist was detained by authorities in Ogun State and indicted on five charges related to alleged assault and theft at the Ifo Magistrate Court, situated in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. Subsequently, he was remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre but later released upon meeting his bail requirements.
